From
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Skype

Says:

For AMD64:
http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-ubuntu-amd64

If you add the medibuntu repo:

sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/jaunty.list --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get update

you can install skype from there.

I don't use Skype as it is proprietarty and very hard to troubleshoot and is not improvable by the community. Ekiga is a great open alternative

Maybe its down for maintenance. The skype folks don't give http access to their repos so we have no way of checking the file actually exists.

I hate skype

Sounds like you'll need to. If it continues a few days then I'd start contacting skype to see if they are having problems but I doubt they will give you anything back but its worth a shot. I know a great many folks who use Ekiga. Its not something I personally use as that sort of thing doesnt interest me.

Hello actionparsnip,
you might be pleased to know that I have completely removed skype ....no one to talk to and if I do I might be spending too long in my neighbours house if you get my drift!?
thanks again
John
