Xubuntu 9.04: Cannot install on old Compaq M300 laptop

Asked by Henrik9000

After Xubuntu 9.04 installation is initiated, the gauge advances until approx 15-20%. Then it stops. It is not possible to reboot, I have to turn power off.

I have previously installed Xubuntu 8.10, then Pupply Linux. Both worked fine (had to change Inode setting to run Puppy - advice from community forum).

To ensure it is not hardware malfunction that causes the freeze, I installed Xubuntu 8.10 again - it works fine. But I would like to take advantage of the speedier boot etc in 9.04...

The laptop is a Compaq M300, with 384 MB RAM:

Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you MD5 check the ISO you downloaded? Did you verify the CD once booted to?

Before booting, can you change the boot parameters - remove 'quiet' and 'splash' from the boot params, then may be you can see where it is getting stuck

Hi,

This might be similar to bug #357724 (also see its duplicate bug #346889).

Thanks for the feedback!

I will check using MD5 (using this guide: http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/using_md5sums.html)

How do I remove quiet and splash from boot params?

By the way, I am using the original dockingstation incl CD-drive to install Xubuntu.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions

As long as the CD is detected and bootable, it doesnt matter how it connects provided the device is not faulty.

I just tried again, using a recent MD5-verified image file. Still no success, gets stuck just as in first attempt.

I am afraid I will have to stick with 8.10 until next Xubuntu version :-(

Regarding the boot params, I am too much of a Linux-dummie to know what-to-do.

Yes in old systems it shows some issues in installation you can check some information about https://playstoreapk.com/where I faced the similar issue in the installation.

Can you help with this problem?
