How to launch a browser from the terminal?

Asked by Vishnu

I wanted to know how do we launch a browser from the terminal window in ubuntu?
Basically when we upgrade the new browser version, where do we have to extract the files and how do we locate it to bin directory.
If i type firefox --version it should show the current version installed.
Could anyone please elaborate the steps to install and run through terminal windows? ./mozilla or ./firefox.
Appreciate your help.
thanks,
Vishnu

If you want to start Firefox from the terminal just type "firefox".

Since Firefox is in the reposotories it will be automaticly upgraded when Ubuntu updates it. If you want to use a newer version you could use this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~fta/+archive/ppa

Instructions how to use a PPA: https://help.launchpad.net/Packaging/PPA#Adding a PPA to your Ubuntu repositories
