Have you got a scanner program installed?

The Brother MFC 240C is reported to work perfectly with the drivers provided by Brother.

Install "XSane" via Applications, Add/Remove.

Yes I have Xsane already installed it does not see my printer, other than that it prints. I had to reinstall XP took 3hrs! in order to do my legal work i.e. scan docs n edit them already miss Ubuntu!

I'm sure it'll work, I just have to wipe out my XP after finishing my legal papers, thanks Andre from a soon to be happy again Ubuntu user!
