My panels have dissapeared and panel manager wont open

The top and bottom panels on my desktop are gone i cant find them and when i try to open the panel manager nothing happens i didnt delete anything all i did is logged out and powered down when i powered on they were gone

To reset gnome, run the following command:
rm -fr .gconf/ .gconfd/ .gnome2/

I tried to run that and im not sure if i did it wright cause nothing happened i am a uber noob to terminal uses and really this whole linux program i have only had my computer for 2 years and before i owened one i didnt really know anything about them i have tried using the synaptics package prog and uninstalled gnome and than reinstalled it and that did nothing please help i am going bald trying to figure it out

when i do run the rm -fr.gconf/.gconfd/.gnome2/ it says no such file or directery

You can do it this way:

Go to Applications, Accessories, Terminal and type or copy and paste the following command followed by pressing "Enter":

sudo debconf gnome-panel

Give your password when prompted and then reboot.

If you want to try Shang Wu's method, the line should be "rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/panel"
