Installation of Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty

Hi,

I am using ubuntu 8.04 hardy heron. I want to upgrade the OS with Ubuntu 9.04 jaunty. Kindly let me know how I can install it without losing any data. Kindly let me know the exact process.Can I over write the OS?

well , you on't overwrite anything , you'll just get the new distrib without any lose of data !!
first go to System->Administration->Software Source and click on the Updates' tab and do the next like shown in this image :

click , on close button , a message will be shown , click then on reload !!, some information will be downloaded , now go to System->Administration->Update Manager... you'll see that a new distribution is ready to be downloaded , click then on the upgrade button. , wait while downloading and installing new distribution' files .
