Internet Browser Back Button Not Accessible

Asked by Ashlie K

I am new to Ubuntu. I bought a Dell 9" mini with Ubuntu about 3 months ago. I have begun to experience some key issues on the system and don't know how to resolve them. It all started when I added the Open ClipArt program and an ipod program from the add/remove applications feature. Soon after my update manager began experiencing errors, then my back and forward buttons are not accessible in the internet browser, then the restart and shutdown options disappeared so now I have to take the battery out if I want to restart. At startup there is a message that says something about the root partition is 100% full and I'm starting to notice options disappearing from the menu. Also, there is something funky going on with the switch desktop mode. I have no idea how to work Ubuntu and I need some help drastically. I start school in September and I am trying to avoid having to buy a new computer. Please help. Thanks.

If the root partition is full then you can help it with:

sudo apt-get clean

I don't suggest removing the battery as this can damage the internals and especially the hard drive if it is not SSD.

To shutdown until you get a resolve on your missing buttons use:

sudo shutdown -h now

If you rename the folder that holds the profile for your browser:

opera == ~/.opera
firefox == ~/.mozilla

If you rename these folders then rerun the app, you will get a stock default profile, if it works fine (likely) then you have 2 options:

1) Maintain the new profile and setup skins, plugins, favourites and stored passwords (easy)
2) Rename back and try to work out what is causing the issue (hard)

If you want you can use CTRL+Left cursor or Backspace key for back.

For your update manager, if:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade

Gives any errors, please paste the output here and we can diagnose

Its the same in opera which is what I use. Some users refuse to use keyboard shortcuts while browsing. Speeddial is also awesome in Opera and someone has made a plugin for it in firefox. Kicks the pants off favourites :D

Sorry, minded instead of "...going to previous window" going to previous web page.

Can you help with this problem?
