how to install apt when boot from CDROM without install

Asked by Net Des

I have a disk that is under lvm (bootable but I don't have the root password).I am trying to recover the files before wipping it out. I tried to boot ubuntu from CDROM without any install. Then try to see if I could "mount" the drive. But look like lvm is not there, I tried to "sudo apt -get install lvm2" but "apt" is not there. Is there a way to work around it (install apt without apt there first??)

Apt should be there. Did you type "apt-get" or "apt -get"? Putting a space in between "apt" and "-get" will not work.
