Its UBUNTU (pronounced OO-BOON-TOO) not unbuntu

As you have hardy installed you can simply update via the web. If you wish to upgrade using the CD then it MUST be the ALTERNATIVE CD, the desktop CD cannot be used to upgrade your current install, only clean install.

you will first need to upgrade to Intrepid if you are using web upgrades. I believe the alternate CD will take you all the way up to Jaunty.

I have a problem with updates taking up all my disc space. I restored 8.04 and it did updates for 188 and then wants to do 292 updates and the disc gets full and the the system doesn't work properly. I thought the the upgrade would fix it. What do you think I can do? Thanks

Can I also use the desk top cd for a clean install? I am not sure what to do about getting back to normal updates with out have my disc space used up.

Have you tried running:

sudo apt-get clean

To remove old deb files?

If you have space on another partition, youo could create a folder on that an symbolically link the archives folder so that the data is stored on the other partition.

The desktop cd can be used to perform a fres install but make sure your backups are recent to prevent data loss (or /home is on its ownpartition)
