i can not connect to server

i try to connect to my company emulator which is a java system i get a message saying done on the website but applet window never comes up. also on scottrade acct. the streaming quote window will come up but is not displayed fully. these two are of great concern to me and i would like to know what i need to do to be able to use them.

Have you installed the sun java 6 runtime engine and the sun java 6 plugin?

If you have another java engine then try to remove it and install the sun versions instead.

Can you help with this problem?
