DVDs show up empty

Asked by notbj

When I insert a video DVD it shows up on my desktop as an "Empty DVD-ROM disk" , I also get the following error in syslog

May 27 18:35:24 mastershake kernel: [ 1697.600763] cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!

Mounting the drive by hand works. I'm running Feisty with all updates installed. I have a Plextor PX-712A SATA DVD burner.

I have all the latest updates installed, so I have the newest libdvdread3. I also updated my drive firmware to no avail.

Removing and reinstalling libdvdread3 and libdvdcss2 fixed the problem. Thanks for your time.
