Missing Pidgin icon

When I was running pidgin I went to the status bar ( see picture)

 and deleted the mail like icon that had pidgin now when ever I press the x button it quits and I want it to back to the status bar

in pidgin main window

Tools -> Preferences

System Tray icon
Choose Always

then close the window and you are done.
