audio does not work on ubuntu 9.04

Asked by billylondon

I installed ubuntu 9.04 on Windows Vista platform using wubi. So I am now having a dual boot system -- Vista & Ubuntu.

The sound is fine on Vista, but not working on Ubuntu.

My laptop is compaq CQ40-126AU

Can anyone give advice on how to fix this sound problem?

Thank you for any help.

Bill

Hi bahaa:

Tks for the quick reply. I did what you asked, and this is what came up:

00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
01:05.1 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc RS780 Azalia controller

Hope it provides information you need.

(And I have made sure the sound is not muted.)

I went to this url provided by the ubuntu forums member Temüjin:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1043568

I followed the instruction there, edited the alsa-base file, restarted alsa. Now I have sound.

Anyone having the same problem might try this webpage, and hope it helps.

thanks
