EVERYTHINGS BIG!!

i tried to do sumthing to my video card but when i restarted my computer everything was big.i tried typing

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

but then in the terminal it says

xserver-xorg postinst warning: overwriting possibly-customised configuration
   file; backup in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.20090528081447

what can i do to fix it???

and when i try

cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.backup

it says

 cannot create regular file `/etc/X11/xorg.backup': Permission denied

please enlighten as to how you fixed it. I was having the same issue, everything went to 640x480 and that was max resolution.

Hi sattracer,

Hope this will help.

1) Apply all updates available (it includes lots of fixes)
2) Install the hardware driver (uninstall nvidia/ati drivers first)
3) I am not sure which version are you using if its 8.04/8.10 its easier -- run this command as root
displayconfig-gtk and then you can choose your monitor and resolution refresh rates everything the GUI way.
If its 9.04 in that case follow first two steps and then use nvidia-settings (installed by default) and change the resolution - please launch nvidia-setting as root and save the configuration.
4) uninstall the video drivers and go to nvidia site and install the driver through the script - www.nvidia.com/page/drivers.html
