Asked by cobwebt

I THINK THAT FIREFOX IS MAKING A CALL TO THE WRONG DIRECTORY?
BUT I DON'T KMOW C OR C++ SO SOME OU YOU PROGRAMMERS CAN TRYTO FIX IT.
The following link will take you to the developers page. It is intended for software developers and those curious about the inner workings of CLiCk, Speak. It is not something that end users need to be know about in order to fully utilize CLiCk, Speak.

The CLC-4-TTS Suite is released under the GNU GPL, but other licensing arrangements for companies that need to accomodate commercial, closed-source products are negotiable.

Open Applications, Accessories, Terminal.

Type:
apt-get install festival
Once Festival is installed you can start its prompt by typing:
 festival.

Use it like this when in Festival’s prompt and type:
(SayText "Your computer is speaking this text.")

This works so we know that there is a speech engine installed and that it has at least one voice.
SO THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE WRONG!

Hello, cobwebt.

Your question doesn't make terribly much sense to me. Also, you never posted the website to the developers page, so maybe I am just missing something.

It works in XP, Vista, and windows 7 for me fine. But don't understand this one!
If you got it to work please give me step by step instructions. I can't seam to get it working says to make a directory for it??

"If Java FreeTTS is not speaking for you, please double check that you used the correct Java home directory when you made the symbolic link for the plugin."
What is this and how do I do that?

It's asking you to place the folder that contains all of the files after install (Much like Program Files in Windows) into the same directory that Java is installed.

http://clickspeak.clcworld.net/installation_linux_orca.html

Says
   1. Download and install Firefox.
Allready installed

   2. Setup Orca.
Allready installed

   3. Set Firefox to be a self voicing application. You can do this by renaming "self_voicing.py" to "Firefox.py" and copying it into "~/.orca/orca-scripts". Or you can just download the zipped "Firefox.py" file here and unzip it into "~/.orca/orca-scripts".

Copyed
"self_voicing.py" to a folder amd renamed it to "Firefox.py" and put in /usr/share/python-support/gnome-orca/orca/scripts.

   4. Download the current version of "CLC-4-TTS Suite with CLiCk, Speak - Bundle Pack" from the downloads page.
Done

   5. Start Firefox and go to File, Open File. Then choose the file you just downloaded in the previous step.
Done

   6. Click the "Install Now" button on the window that pops up.
Done

   7. Restart Firefox three times. Congratulations, you've just set up CLiCk, Speak.

Done The " Speak Secelection", "Auto Reading Mode", and the "Stop Speaking" buttons and toop bare are there!
Click on tooles at the top of FireFox, Click on Click Speak Options, on "Speach Engine Chose "Orca"

Restarted System
Hi lighted some text and clicked on the "GO" button Nothing happened!
Orca works fine!
I think the problem is that "Firefox.py" is in /usr/share/python-support/gnome-orca/orca/scripts.
in ubuntu 9.04
But Fire fox says that is looking for "Firefox.py" in "~/.orca/orca-scripts".
But I do not know how to make this Directoy! "~/.orca/orca-scripts".
What is "~/."stand for?
And how do I make this file?
Should it be in Filesystem folder or should I make a file named orca-scripts. in /usr/share/python-support/gnome-orca/orca/ ??
/usr/share/python-support/gnome-orca/orca/scripts.

You put it in the wrong directory. ~/ means /home/your_username/.a_dot_before_a_folder_means_a_hidden_folder.

So, if your username is thomas, follow this process: /home/thomas
then either hit Ctrl+H to view hidden files, or follow View --> Show Hidden Files.

From there, you'll see /.orca, and you can navigate to orca-scripts.

If you don't have permission to mess with ~/.orca/orca-files, run this command in a terminal to change permissions (without the "s):
"sudo chmod o+wx /home/thomas/.orca/orca-files"
And enter your password.

You will not see any characters as you are typing your password. Just type it, and hit enter.

900 people? Then it's a bug in the software. The toolbar installed, so I assumed the text would work. I'm sorry to say that the software looks outdated and most likely cannot be run on Linux.

I hope I've been of some help, and solved your question.

Best to you, and good luck!

NO the software is not out of date!
You want to be programmers are getting just like Microsoft and Vista!
You don't make sure that the software that will work on older versions will work on your upgrade!
When you are programming you can' change File or Directory names or Structure that ate used as Libraries, Calls or jumps by other software! Microsoft tryed it with Vista with the result that 5000 of them lost their jobs and HP and DELL started selling Linux.
Now you are starting down the same road. I hated Vista so I formated my hard drive and put XP on the new computer then I tried Ubuntu 9.04 and liked it except for I need a web page reader.
So I tried Fire Fox Click Speak. Didn't work! So I Googled for "Text to Speech for Linux" And found:

" Results 1 - 10 of about 2,330,000 for Text to Speech for Linux. (0.30 seconds)"
Have downloaded 5 so far and none of them work in Ubuntu 9.04!
So since all 2,330,000 other programs cant be out of date!!
It must be Ububtu that is wrong!!
Windows 7 is out in bata now I have 5 different builds and it works better than Vista so I guess it will probly be what I use till you people get it right.

There is no reason to get so upset.

By the by, as soon as you said "you people," I knew you were very confused. We are the Ubuntu community; fellow Ubuntu users that feel like we should take time out of our busy schedules to help people who need it.
Being so rude is the first strike. Someone else may take up solving this question, but I no longer feel inclined to work with you.

If you want official support, you can pay for it, much like a proprietary operating system, by clicking here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/paid

I'm sorry your experience has been so ruined.

Regards,
Bryan
