Asked by bobthesparky

Hey im completely new to this os and used to windows, so please bear with me. Ive set up a wireless bridge on my windows computer in order for ubuntu to connect through it. When ive done this on other pcs its worked but i cant get this to work. Both computers are connected via an ethernet cable. Ive even tried a network crossover cable and that didnt work! Any help will be much appreaciated as this os is pretty awesome and the internet would top it off!

If you aree connecting p2p like that then there is no DHCP server so you will need to assign IP addresses for your systems to talk. There will also be no name translation so you wil need to use IPs, or add an entry to /etc/hosts so you can use names.

Set one pc to have the ip address of 10.0.0.2 and subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
Set the other pc to ip address 10.0.0.3 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0

They are now both part of the same class c network 10.0.0.0 which is great and ping will now flow.
