cant set up dial up modem support in 9.04
When installing 6.04, then 7.04, then 8.04 I first checked that I could dial out with my external Genius 56K modem and it worked perfectly so I did the installations (obviously 1 year apart).
However the 9.04 live disk would not allow that to happen so I decided to stick with 8.04.
After obtaining another bigger hard drive and doing an image copy I decided to risk installing 9.04 but I am back on the 8.04 disk to ask this question.
Progress:-
I installed gnome-network-admin package which gave me access to Sys-->Admin-
However there is no Unlock button as in 8.04 and required for 9.04 according to their help, so I could not save any settings and could not connect.
I then did sudo pppconfig and filled in all the details.
pon provider (or KOL) in my case said I had to be the dip group. sudo adduser peter dip said that I was already in the dip group and same with sudo adduser peter dialout
but pon KOL still will not work.
I think that Ubuntu is very very good and would rather stay with 8.04 for years rather than go back to windows, but this aspect of 9.04 is atrocious as many new to Ubuntu are still on dial up. How can I fix this and get feedback to the Ubuntu developers.
