Ubuntu does not boot with vista

Asked by rambo79

Hi there,

I am using "Windows Vista" as my primary OS and I installed "Ubuntu 7.04" on the same Hard Disk.

when it asked me what partition to install the Ubuntu OS i chose manually and took 19 GB unallocated for "/" ext3

and also 512 MB for Swap.

when it finished the installation and i booted my vista came up regullary.

How do I lunch Ubuntu ?
How do I install the "Grub" for a menu to switch between OS ?

thanks in advaced.

hi and thanks for answering but how can I run this commands and make a boot disk of the Grub if the only OS I can run is the Windows Vista.

what did i do wrong by choosing manually and make a partition of "/" ext3 and SWAP prtition.

I tried to use Acronis Boot Selector but it didn't recognize them both, not the vista and also the ubuntu.

I am not sure what you did wrong, usually it should configure everything correctly. The only thing to do wrong is if you manually change the location of the MBR (Master Boot Record) in the last installation window (I think it is something like Advanced Configuration). It should be installed on your first harddrive (and not on a particular partition).

You can run those commands in a command line terminal (i.e. Konsole) if you run the live CD.

Hi,

Firstly, PLEASE don't use Ubuntu 7.04. It does not support Windows Vista. I have already suffered this problem. If you want dual-boot with win vista use ubuntu 7.10, for installation info please go to my site at :

Can you help with this problem?
