Ubuntu 8.10 installation

Asked by Bappyachuthan

I am new to Ubuntu type of softwares. I am using HP Evio-510 P4 minitower desktop PC. Yesterday i have installed Ubuntu 8.10 desktop edition CD. After installation as advised by the system i restarted the PC and i got a orange screen and the PC got hanged up. Pls. note that there is no any menu options and task bars appread on the screen. Again i switch off PC and restart the same. But the same result only i am getting. The desktop screen is changing to an Orange colour and just hanging the whole PC.

Your technical advice on this subject is highly appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi,

According to this page http://arewold.wordpress.com/2007/05/26/installing-ubuntu-704-on-a-hp-510-laptop-computer/ , Ubuntu 7.04 was working on a HP-510 laptop. Is it the same model? If yes, there was a regression between Ubuntu 7.07 and 8.10.

Note that 8.10 is not the last version, and there is no reason to install this version. The long time support version is 8.04; this is the one you should install in a professional environment for instance. Otherwise, the last version is 9.04, and you may want to try it if your hardware is recent.

You don't really need to install a version to check if it works, running a live session would probably do the job.

If you still experience problems, you should provide more information about your hardware (especially the graphic card).

Hope this helps!
