Netgear WG311v2 issues

Asked by mccand

I have an old dell desktop with a Netgear WG311v2 wireless card, and I can see the local wireless networks, but I cannot get a connection, even when the network is unencrypted (It times out). If it is encrypted, I get asked tor the network key, and then it times out. I have tried adding the following to /etc/modprobe.d/options:

options acx firmware_ver=1.2.1.34

Or:

options acx firmware_ver=1.2.0.30

But neither seems to have fixed the problem.

Any insights or teachings would be greatly appreciated!

Hmmmm. I'm running 7.04 (feisty), neither of which these methods seem to address. The method given on http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1965232&postcount=2 seems to be for the situation where nothing works (card is not recognized at all). I ran through some of the terminal stuff given and received somewhat different answers; I don't think the problem he had, is the one I had. Right now, the card is listed in the hardware information, and works to the extent that I can see other networks. I just cannot create a connection with the network.

http://www.doctort.org/adam/nerd-notes/netgear-wg311v2-wireless-lan-and-ubuntu-dapper.html doesn't seem to solve my problem. I've set the firmware_ver to 1.2.0.30, and my interfaces file reads:

# Wireless networking
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp

I've also tried setting the firmware_ver to 1.2.1.34
And still no luck :-(
