Asked by alind billore

i have a p4 processor with 256MB of ram and 80 GB of hard disk, i created a partition of 15 GB for installing UBANTU , while installing from a CD ,it takes nearly 20 minutes to go through each process, and finally at the process 4(asking for the partion) ,it just stops responding!
i tried it 6 times but its not going beyond it,just hangs after i manualy declare partion to be used!!

please help me .is my computre has not enough compatibility ?(actually its a bit slow!)

firstly, Its UBUNTU not UBANTU (pronounced OO-BOON-TOO)

anyhoo

Did you MD5 check the iso you downloaded?
Did you verify the CD was ok once booted to?
Did you burn as slowly as you could?

With 256 mb of ram you really need the "Alternate iso" rather than the "Desktop iso". It might very well solve the problem you're having.

I'd recommend Xubuntu for speed too, Metacity is a bit big for 256Mb RAM in my opinion. Xfce is much more suited (or LXDE). Both are lightweight desktops which will leave more RAM for your apps to run in.

Can you help with this problem?
