Why won't it just boot into normal ubuntu

Asked by onyxolivia

Ok, I'm a complete noob, but when I first installed ubuntu, everything was working great. Then, I had to restart my computer so I did, but now, instead of booting normal ubuntu like it had before with the background and everything, it just goes into the black screen with the white text and asks for my login and password. After I type that in, it just sits there waiting for me to type a command in. Can anyone please help me get it to just boot normally again and not this wierd thing?

Are there any error messages that you receive? These may be printed above the place for you to type in your username and password.

The password does not display anything when you press keys on the keyboard. This prevents people seeing *s like in windows and hides the length of the password. Just type as normal and it will work.

ok, when I typed in the first one, it installed something, but it won't let me type in the second one, it says kdm is not there or something. and i also noticed, it only does this after I enable the proprietary video drivers, before, i could restart and it would be fine

to uninstall simply format the partitions, if you dual boot then you will need to reinstall the XP boot loader.

Can you help with this problem?
