Javascript error causing screen freeze

Asked by Pompom0551

I'm using Firefox 3.0.10 and Ubuntu Jaunty. I keep getting screen blinks and freezes that would result in haveing to turn off the pc and restarting all over again. The errors are always the same in the error console:

Please help me resove this issue. I've upgraded sun-java6-jdk 6-13-1 and just now added icedtea-6-jre-cacao to see if that would help.

Thank you
Pamela

Firstly Javascript has nothing to do with sun. Its just a similar name.
Does this bug with firefox happen a lot? Does it only happen on one site or all sites that use javascript?

Shane,

      The freezing happens a lot and I have to continually
shut down and restart the pc. It also happens on all
sites, not just one.

Sam,

     I made a new profile and transfered the old folders that I wanted into the new profile by dragging and dropping thus replacing the new folder with the old. Changed up the profile.ini and nothing seems to bring up the profile that I have made. See below what info I have and tell me what to do next.

[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1

[Profile0]
Name=bxvcr65i.Default User Pamela
IsRelative=0
Path=/home/pam/.mozilla/firefox/bxvcr65i.Default User Pamela

Probably drag and drop of a faulty addon or prefs.js. Except bookmarks I'd restart with a complete new profile, firefox will create all necessary files anyway. Write down which addons are installed and install it one by one to see which one is faulty.
btw. install only addons from sources you trust, e.g. mozilla.org, Synaptic offers e.g. noscript a.o.

Sam,

     So you mean to say that there is nothing wrong with the profile.ini that I showed you? It seems to me that a new profile shouldn't read (Profile0) and in the (General) StartWithLastProfile=1 shouldn't be right either.

This profile.ini is unchanged here since 2007. Current installation is Hardy.
[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1

[Profile0]
Name=default
IsRelative=1
Path=hmkecndp.default
