brother website only supplies drivers for new ububtu release and i have a gutsy 7.10 version which will not drive my DCP150c multifunction copier.

Setting up Brother's printers with Ubuntu is generally a breeze, and this one is no exception. Yours should successfully install. Instead of waiting 30 minutes for me to type out a tutorial, I thought you'd prefer it if I'd just point you to one:

I think I will try again when I upgarade to version 9.04 which will probably have the new driver for the dcp installed.

Yeah, that tutorial probably won't work for Jaunty, but your printer should be even easier to set up. :-)
