use webcam in ubuntu 8.10

i hav a dell inspiron 1525 system and i hav installed ubuntu 8.10 on it,
my webcam device is from broadcom corp.
plez tell me how do i initialize my webcam.....
basically guide me wit da commands!!!!

Have you tried the simplest way, i.e start cheese or gqcam or so?
Also check that your webcam is enabled in BIOS (even if it used to work under Windows!!!).
If all this won't help try to google about gspca.
