That bugger wouldn't be able to help his sister. Don't rely on him .......
Could you please show us the output of an lspci and lsusb command?
We need to check what is the chip being used for the camera.

By the end of all this you have to suggest me some good source/books to learn this stuff

Thanks.
I have both good news and (relatively) bad news.
The good news is that your model is supported, the bad one is that the driver is not officially available from the ubuntu repositories.
If you decide to install it anyhow, here is how:
1) Download and save to Desktop this package:
This complies with the kernel info you gave me in Question #7078.
2) Install by opening a terminal and giving this command:
sudo dpkg -i ~/Desktop/
Let me know if there is any problem/error.

Ops, cut&paste mistake, the last command is:
sudo dpkg -i ~/Desktop/
Apologies!

>Cold you give me some source to learn all this stuff?
Of course! I understand you want to learn more about the basics first?
I'm a big fanatic of books, so I can only recommnd that you visit your local bookstore or library and start with a generic Unix book, or perhaps generic Linux book. I don't want to mention a particular title/author, but avoid any book which is specific to a distribution, thats easy stuff once you grasp the basic of what unix/linux is.
If I misunderstood your question, please ask me again, I'm more than willing to give you any help I can on the subject.
>Also, the function key for sound (mute/increase/
>for projecting the screen is not working.. Should i open another thread?
Yes, that would be better. I'm sorry, I know it seems silly, but this way we may help other people with the same issue to find a solution already ready for them.
Please include in your question your distribution (Ubuntu/

Hi, I also have a VAIO VGN-SZ430N model with a webcam and I need help because I am running Ubuntu 7.10, not 7.04. I also plan to upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04 soon after it comes out so I may need help with that (if it doesn't already work). I tried the method already posted but that didn't work.
This is the output for lspci:

and this is the output for lsusb, but my webcam is built in (or does that even matter?):

One of those is my mouse (right now I have a logitech USB wireless mouse plugged in)
Could you please help, Cesare Tirabassi? You seem to be a guru at this (esp. compared to me) and I need your assistance. Please post any solution for Ubuntu 7.10, and, if necessary and possible, one for Ubuntu 8.04.
