Enable boot messages logging

Asked by dum

How to enable boot messages logging? dmesg stores only kernel messages. Enabling BOOTLOGD in /etc/default/syslogd doesnt work in 9.04. Ctrl-Alt-F8 shows only last messages.

Try enabling boot logging by editing the file named /etc/default/bootlogd:

gksudo gedit /etc/default/bootlogd

and change:

BOOTLOGD_ENABLE=No

to

BOOTLOGD_ENABLE=Yes

Log file can be viewed on /var/log/boot file.

This fails to work for Oneiric.

/etc/default/bootlogd exists and changing to BOOTLOGD_ENABLE=Yes + reboot has no effect.

How is loggin turned on in Oneiric?

Looks like residue is deposited in /var/log/boot.log now instead of /var/log/boot.
