Hello, kenyon C. :-)

There is no such thing as a "Jaunty graphics card," but we can see what kind you have, so that we can help you out a bit more.

There is a command that you can run from your terminal. Open it up, and type "lspci", then "lspci -v", then "lspci -v | less". You are looking for video controller / vga keywords in above output listing. An example would be:

"00:12.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GeForce 7150M (rev a2)"

If you like a graphical interface, you can click, on the Ubuntu panel, System --> Preferences --> Hardware Information, but this is more difficult to find, especially if you're not sure of what kind of card you have.

Just do this, and with some help you'll have Steam up and running very soon. :-)

Ok, so you have an Intel - 82865G graphics card.

I have found this link to a tutorial that will most likely help, however before following it, realize that the only problem you're having with your resolution is within a game. If this isn't your problem, or it's a bug, etc. and following this tutorial screws you up, it will likely be a huge headache. Proceed with caution. :-)

Post here and tell me how everything goes, or what you decide to do.

Best to you, and good luck.

Can you help with this problem?
