tried to upgrade to 9.whatever and now wont work

Asked by LloydLMiller

I was using ubuntu 8.4 everything was excellent except, of course, it would only run in low graphics mode , i guess it doesn't support my graphics card. The notice came on to upgrade to the latest version and now i got nothin, the thing boots up, but it shows only black and white lines when its booted, cannot do nothing and i gave away the cd i used to install 8.4, is there anyway to undo the upgrade?

Run the reconfigure feature to reset the driver.

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

If you have anymore problems please provide the make and model of the graphics card so we can provide better support...

I was able to reinstall 8.10 and the pc is now awesome again, I would however like to know if there is something special I can do to run it in regular graphics mode. I have an older ati radeon 7500 on the machine
