Stop nagging about upgrading to 9.04

Asked by Dima Ryazanov

I'm using Kubuntu 8.10 right now, and if I understand correctly, it's supported until April 2010. Why can't I get rid of the upgrade notification icon? Even if I close it, it appears when I log in again.

Even worse: I clicked "Don't upgrade", and "Don't show this again". Now, the icon is still there - but when I click it, it says there are no updates to install. So what am I being notified about?

This is more a question then a bug.

Ubuntu Hardy (8.10) is indeed a Long support version. If I'm not mistaken, it is supported 3 years.

If you want to keep that version and get rid of the notification saying 9.04 is available, it's pretty simple.
Go into system -> synaptic
In synaptic, go in the configuration menu -> depot
Switch to the third tab and check in the bottom of the window. It should be written something like "version update" (sorry, I got my linux in french, so I don't know the exact term).
In your case, it will be written "Normal version". Click on it and change it to the long support one.

The notification will then disappear.

No, 8.04 is a LTS. But 8.10 is still supposed to be supported for a year - and since an upgrade is always a bit risky, I don't want to do that right now.

Also, I'm using Kubuntu, so no synaptic here.

Also, I still think it's a bug. Clicking "no, I don't want to upgrade" should stop the notification from appearing in the future...

Oh really? Sorry for the error. And indeed, you are on Kubuntu. Sorry, it was late..

So I think it's pretty much the same manip with Kubuntu, but can't be sure. Long time I didn't use it. Check in adept, you should find a place were you can disable the upgrading.

Also, the message do appear, indeed, but only to let you know there is a new version. It just won't install since you asked not to.
Need to be confirm by a Kunbutu user (I no one come, I'll check that when I'll get time!)

Can you help with this problem?
