Problem with video drivers (bug)

Asked by Test

Drivers numbered 1 do not install correctly, breaking the installation of packages.
Driver number 2 does not work correctly. If the screen goes into sleep mode, then after some time the screen begins to flicker harshly. The system has NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M and Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600.

Looks like those driver installs (number 1) are causing havoc. Let's try a fresh start:

Clean Sweep: Use DDU (a handy tool) to completely uninstall all existing NVIDIA and Intel drivers. You can find it here: link to DDU: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html.

Fresh Install: Head to NVIDIA's website and grab the latest driver for your GeForce GT 750M: link to Nvidia driver download: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx. Make sure it matches your system!

Windows Update: After the NVIDIA driver, grab any updates for your Intel graphics from the Windows Device Manager.

Flickering Fix: This might help with the screen flickering after sleep mode: Open the NVIDIA Control Panel, go to "Manage 3D Settings" -> "PhysX Settings" and set the "PhysX processor" to your GeForce GT 750M.

Bonus Tips:

Make sure your Windows is fully updated.
Check for any BIOS updates for your system.
Try disabling unnecessary programs that might cause conflicts.
If these steps don't solve the issue, don't hesitate to reach out to NVIDIA or Intel support, or search online forums for specific solutions. Hopefully, this gets your graphics running smoothly again

What does Windows have to do with it?

You need to use my PPA if you want the Nvidia 390 driver to work on Ubuntu 22.04 with kernel 6.5: https://launchpad.net/~dtl131/+archive/ubuntu/nvidiaexp
I have no idea if that will fix your flickering issue or not.

Yes. This partially solved the problem.
Now the NVIDIA driver is installed:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller
 Kernel driver in use: i915
--
01:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK107M [GeForce GT 750M] (rev a1)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. GK107M [GeForce GT 750M]
 Kernel driver in use: nvidia

Apparently this is caused by the i915 driver since the flickering situation has not changed.

The current situation is critical and does not allow using Ubuntu. It's also impossible to lock the screen
