Do I need Ubuntu Pro?

Asked by Jean Bails

Ubuntu/Pro by Canonical has been asking permission to install Pro but it doesn't sound like I need it and it will eat up space and memory. I am a simple computer user meaning I do not code, game, provide content, do presentations, etc. I just do email, social media and listen to podcasts. I don't even keep internal data; it is on a memory stick. My computer is an older version of System 76 with (I believe) 12 Gigs and a processor 10-15 years old. I was using 11.something Ubuntu until even the work-arounds did not work. The unit was zeroed out completely for the current Ubuntu to be uploaded. I probably need some form of security but wouldn't PRO be over-kill for my needs?

Thank you for reading this and providing an answer. The PRO software people said they could not answer any of my tech questions (above) and referred me to you.

Its not mandatory, no. For your needs Ubuntu sounds like an ideal OS.

Ubuntu Pro is a version of Ubuntu offered by Canonical for public clouds, focused on enterprise and production use. It is based on Ubuntu components but comes with a set of additional services that are activated out of the box. Ubuntu Pro also provides Extended Security Maintenance (ESM)

I'd say you don't need it

I don't use it either, just as an extra thing. If it counts for anything at all
