I'm a n00b, but it appears I can't do much until I fix this issue about Jammy not having a release file.
Help!
And thanks.

In the configuration file for of the package management system on your computer there is a reference to the PPA ppa:pmjdebruijn/darktable-release
This PPA does not contain any software for the Ubuntu release that you are running (jammy), see https://launchpad.net/~pmjdebruijn/+archive/ubuntu/darktable-release

You have to remove the reference to that PPA form your package management configuration.

What output do you receive for the command
grep darktable-release /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list
?

If you get an output with a filename that is somewhat similar to
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/pmjdebruijn_darktable-release_jammy.list
then delete the file with the name that you got.

https://ppa.launchpadcontent.net/pmjdebruijn/darktable-release/ubuntu/dists/

The PPA doesn't support your release of Ubuntu and should be removed

After the removal of the PPA.
https://snapcraft.io/darktable
Install Darktable Snap on your Ubuntu 22.04

You can still install updates and so on with the error it's not system breaking. Just remember that the first P in PPA stands for "personal". It is a package repo for the owner(s) and their needs. The fact that they are available to anyone else is a bonus. The compile options and functionality cannot be guaranteed
