Ubuntu22.04 EMOJIS DON'T WORK

Asked by RsBrt

Emojis don't work in Ubuntu 22.04
With previous versions of Ubuntu I could copy and paste emojis from Whatsapp to Gedit and Gimp as if they where simple characters. I have text documents created in 2018, 2021 (other Ubuntu versions) where I have copied many emojis and now they are not visible, they have disappeared.
I have installed Emoji Picker, Feeling Finder, Emote and Characters without success. Characters does not work.
Feeling Finder: When I choose an emoji, a note appears below that says "Copied to clipboard", but when I try to insert the emoji in Gedit or Gimp I get an empty square instead of the emoji.
How to make Ubuntu show emojis?
What can I do? Thanks and regards.

Emote is a modern emoji picker written in GTK3.

Thank you Bernard.
I have installed Emote, but it shows empty squares instead of emojis.

I have an image made on 2023-11-04 where I was able to insert whatsapp emojis in Gimp. I guess some later update of Ubuntu 22.04 changed something so you can't see the emojis anymore.

Can you help with this problem?
