Clamav takes from 72 to 84 percent of memory, when it takes automatic scans, on Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04.
This just started today 12-11-23 an Ubuntu 22.04. It started a little over a week ago on Ubuntu 20.04. When this happens, if I am on the internet, it locks up computer. It took me some time to find cause of lock up on 20.04. Today I was using 22.04, when automatic scan started. Used System Monitor to find what could be causing lock up. I do not remember making any changes to clamav. I have 6 GiB of memory. Computer is older Dell Inspiron 620. Processor Intel i5-2320 @ 3.00GHz x 4. GNOME 42.9. Windowing System Wayland.
Thanks

Another problem. When trying to run a test on the ram, it goes to 74% on first pass and stops. Tried 6 times. Used safe-mode and without. Later will remove ram and reinstall. Beginning to think hard ware problem.

I used a bootable CD, to test ram. Same thing, 74%, then it froze. When I took the ram out and reseated it,
I tried testing one piece of ram, and then the other. The test worked. Ram is OK. I am tired of working on this. Will change the scheduler to a time that I am not using computer. I will mark this solved. Thank You for your input.
