dual boot w\o partition

Asked by edestacio

I have WIN XP Home installed on my laptop. I want to try to install Ubuntu on the same system but I don't have a partition on my drive. Is it possible to install Ubuntu the easier way?

The installer for ubuntu will allow you to resize your windows partition and create a new linux partition.
Select manual when you get to the partition screen in the install and then resize the windows partition to a comfortable size and create new partitions for linux and swap

Please let me know if this answers your question

umm you may want to defragment your windows partition first, using the windows 'defrag' utility available under windows. i forget where it is, somewhere in the windows control panel... haven't used windows for years. so hopefully someone else could point this out.

Defrag in windows is easy, just open My Computer, right click the drive and select tools. Defragment is the last option.

Can you help with this problem?
