ubuntu 22.04.3lts background changer executes .xml and .xml~ as two different files.

/home/user/.local/share/backgrounds/slideshow.xml and /home/user/.local/share/backgrounds/slideshow.xml~
are both executed along with /home/user/.local/share/gnome-background-properties/pictures.xml and /home/user/.local/share/gnome-background-properties/pictures.xml~ the backup tildi is not recognized.
what package is responsible for excluding the back-up files?

Creating a backup on Ubuntu 22.04 uses the timeshift package to create
a snapshot backup.
