Livepatch support 6.2.0-31-generic

Asked by Matias

Hi!

I have Ubuntu 22.04 LTS on my computer running Ubuntu pro and it works otherwise but Livepatch doesn't work, and in my case it's because of an unsupported kernel, which I have is 6.2.0-31-generic

I was wondering if Livepatch support for the 6.2.0-31-Generic kernel is coming soon, so that Livepatch will start working on my Ubuntu computer?

Or is the only option to install the supported 5.15 (GA) kernel instead? It is not even installed on my computer yet. How would it be easiest to install Ubuntu 22.04 LTS on my computer so that Livepatch would start working? The machine in question runs my Chia cryptocurrency farm, so Livepatch would be very useful, as it would allow real-time kernel updates to be done without rebooting.

Thanks!

Best regards
Matias

see https://ubuntu.com/security/livepatch/docs/livepatch/explanation/client_not_working

I assume that a version 6.* kernel will be supported by life-patching only when Ubuntu 24.04 will be released, that is still more than half a year in future.

Okay Would this be a useful guide for installing exactly that 5.15 GA kernel on Ubuntu 22.04LTS? https://vitux.com/how-to-install-latest-linux-kernel-5-15-on-ubuntu-20-04/

Thanks!

An instruction how to install the GA kernel that is supported by livepatch is contained in the link that I gave.

The steps are:

sudo apt install --install-recommends linux-generic

rebooting into the older kernel (by selecting "advanced options" in the grub menu) and then uninstalling the 6.* kernel.

Can you help with this problem?
