How to install Ubuntu on Dell G15 5530?

Asked by Roney Carvalho

Hi! I´m trying to install ubuntu 22.04.03 LTS on my Dell G15 that came with windows 11 from Dell. Downloaded the Ubuntu ISO, used the Rufus to make a pendrive to boot from with both MBR and GPT options, doesn´t work. It does boot to the selection screen and I´ve tried all the options, try and install, safe graphics, OEM, it stops after that. The support from Dell told me there is no ISO from them for this that I should download from ubuntu site or there is no way to install ubuntu in my laptop. Can you help me please? Sorry for the english, I´m from Brasil.

I've had a similar issue with an older system. When trying to boot from the Ubuntu USB I would get stuck at a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left corner.

My workaround for this issue was not booting the Ubuntu image directly but using a utility called "Ventoy". It will create a bootable USB drive with a MBR partition table that will boot to Ventoy. The drive will have two partitions, on the first one you place your ISO file(s). From Ventoy you can then select/boot any ISO that you have on the USB drive.

Here are some instructions, I assume that you will be creating the bootable USB drive from Windows. I hope this helps, good luck!

You will have to disable fast-boot & secure boot in the BIOS.
F10 or F12 soon as computer starts.
Move first boot device to USB.
Plug in USB save and exit from BIOS.

You can turn secure boot back on after the install has completed and rebooted.
