TODAYS SAMBA UPDATE BREAKS NVIDIA GLX DIRECT RENDERING

Asked by huiii

todays update (samba-related) breaks nvidia glx direct rendering.
running ubuntu feisty, nvidia 6600 go, nvidia-glx drivers from repo.
after smearing backup on system everything is fine again and after accepting update samba files, glxinfo | grep direct shows NO.
compiz/beryl = white screen...
i tried this 3 times and always the same. so i'm sure its samba update.
i don't know why though.

Not sure as I'm pretty new, but I think this falls under the bugs section rather than the "Answers" section

well i don' t know, i reported a bug and automatically landed here,
if its an answer or a bug, who knows?
this looks like a question and more details to come:

its not samba related, but actually any update breaks my gl direct rendering.
i' m dealing now with api-mismatch problem,
and i don' t know how to fix this mess

when trying to fix it by deinstalling nvidia drivers to install it back again, i got this message api mismatch nvidia-kernel-module being 1-0.7184 but i installed 1-0.9755.
so xserver won't start with nvidia-driver

dpkg-query -l | grep nvidia
rc nvidia-glx 1.0.9631+2.6.20.5-16.28 NVIDIA binary XFree86 4.x/X.Org driver
ii nvidia-glx-new 1.0.9755+2.6.20.5-16.28 NVIDIA binary XFree86 4.x/X.Org 'new' driver
ii nvidia-kernel-common 20051028+1ubuntu7 NVIDIA binary kernel module common files

i really don' t understand but i deinstalled 9631 before installing 9755.
