failed to start video disk recorder

Asked by michael

vdr - the Video Disk Recorder.
At least one DVB card is required to run vdr. These statements copied from https://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/xenial/man1/vdr.1.html

How can I clear the error from Ubuntu 22.04? I have never had a DVD card, nor do I connect to a TV.

uname -a Linux michael-Inspiron-620 5.19.0-46-generic #47~22.04.1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Wed Jun 21 15:35:31 UTC 2 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

lsb_release -Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS
Release: 22.04
Codename: jammy

Thank You for any help.

I do not have a DVD card that I am aware of. Is there a terminal command, to find out?

https://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/focal/man1/vdr.1.html

If you don't have one, how do you intend to use the application? You need hardware to get the TV signal to the PC.....

Don't confuse DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting, a system for receiving TV programs sent over satellites, cable and terrestrial antennas) and DVD (Digital Versatile Disc, a storage device).

What is the purpose that you want to use vdr - "Video Disk Recorder for DVB cards", if you don't have a DVB card?

If you just want to play the contents of a DVD, then you can use several other multimedia programs, e.g. vlc.

(Or what else do you want to do?)

For diagnostc purposes, what output do you receive for the following commands:

uname -a
lsb_release .crid
apt policy vdr
systemctl --no-pager --full status vdr

If you do not need that program, then I suggest uninstallin it.

What output do you receive for

apt --simulate purge --autoremove vdr

I think the easiest way to get rid of the error message is uninstalling the program.

sudo apt purge --autoremove vdr

Manfred
I shut 22.04 down, all three errors were gone. Will check for them in future.

Thank You
