snap has no updates available

Asked by shanen (Shannon Jacobs)

That's the error message from Ubuntu Software on the Updates tab. Today there was a Firefox update showing, too, but that one succeeded. Now it's just the gnome update that is showing but not available to actually get installed. Been seeing variations of the same problem for some months. Firefox is a frequent culprit, though today it succeeded without any sign of problems.

I'd like to be more helpful, but I saw screens and screens of things I could do, but I have various other things I can to, too, so sorry, I just wish it would work properly with fewer bugs. If I was actually in a position of supporting specific features of Ubuntu, I can only say that I would donate for stability and fixing problems. I would be extremely unlikely to donate to support any new features because they frequently cause problems in stuff that used to work and it is extremely rare that I want the new functions.

(Actually, I was polite to say "extremely rare", because I can't remember the last time it happened. I'm a pretty basic user as far as Ubuntu is concerned, though I've been using (or playing with) Ubuntu for many years. (First time with the letter D?))

Open a terminal [ctl+alt+t] :
killall snap-store
sudo snap refresh

See if the 2 commands fix the problem.

There is 1 error? Makes me think this attempt to add clarification will fail, but...

I'm sure that is not the approach I used last time I managed to force it to succeed, though I did use a shell. I'll try to remember to return to this comment the next time it comes up.

However it does remind me of the possible related earlier problem involving snapd. As I recall that version of the problem, I just used the activity monitor to shut down the snapd process and then the updates would complete.

But none of this is what I want from Ubuntu. Mostly that would be a simple escape from Microsoft's sick world of Windows. Instead, I see a pretty constraint stream of new features I do not care about and constant unreliability. I really can't recommend Ubuntu to people who think I know much more about computers than they do. Doesn't even matter if they are right, because I don't regard Ubuntu as stable enough for serious work... (I was hoping that the Chromebook would give me an escape hatch, but that has been one of the worst machines I've ever bought.)

Can you help with this problem?
