Since there is a snap version of ubuntu, can ubuntu not remove anymore debs from repos and put snap in their place?

Asked by Ward Nakchbandi

***Serious Question***

Since there will be a snap only ubuntu soon

Can the legacy Deb Ubuntu not lose anymore packages from it's repos?

Snaps are awesome on their own

But having a mix of debs and snaps creates an issue of having applications on 2 planes of existance causing all sorts of issues

So I humbly ask can we make
Ubuntu Snap all snap
And
Ubuntu Legacy all Deb

That would better for everyone.

The Debian repository is intact fully.
All of the snaps are located at the snap store, which also is intact.

No it's not Firefox is snap and missing from the Ubuntu apt repos and cups will be in the next release

My Question is:

Can these packages be added back as debs.

Or at least not more suffer the same fate

Or will the Ubuntu repo keep getting is packages replaced with transactional snap packages

@wnasnisar32

But the choice of Deb and snaps -IS- being taken way

Firefox the is now forced as snap.

Cups will be soon forced as snap.

And the only way to use the Deb is use 3rd party insecure PPAs or repos

Can Ubuntu stop doing this.

I mean it's okay to have snap in the legacy Deb Ubuntu, and ship snap apps ootb

But can they keep the Deb packages from debian freeze intact and name the transactional packages something like firefox-snap

Not true here is Firefox as a .deb file.

.deb packages will be around for a very long time, not all Linux OS's are able to use snap packages.

That's not the ubuntu repo -_-

I'm talking about ubuntu in perticular

Ofc debs won't vanish from the internet or debian would die
