adding and subtracting apps to a boot iso

I want to create a custom live boot iso with the programs I use the most while eliminating programs I don't need. I remember a program for the Ubuntu 8.04 version that allowed me to do it. If that program still exists where can I find it and what name does it go by?

Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS (Hardy Heron)
released on 24 April 2008. Ubuntu 8.04's support ended on 12 May 2011 for desktops.
