BalenaEtcher problem

Asked by nigel brown

I have downloaded balenaEtcher Appimage x64 and opened the files, but that is where matters end . No App for it appears in my list of Apps which would allow me to open the App to use it. Can you please suggest what I need to do?

If you are running Ubuntu, then you probably better download and install the *.deb version instead of the appimage version.

Download the file
https://github.com/balena-io/etcher/releases/download/v1.18.4/balena-etcher_1.18.4_amd64.deb
by doing a right click on the link and selecting "save target as ..." (or similar, exact text depending on the browser that you use)

Then open a terminal window, change directory to the directory where you stored the file and install it with the command
sudo dpkg -i balena-etcher_1.18.4_amd64.deb

Although my problem is solved and Manfredś help was excellent this might be useful to others. The computer was a Dell Optimist 780 which originally ran on Windows but was altered to run on Ubuntu 22.04. I then decided to add Etcher to a Macbook which has also been altered to run on Ubuntu 22.04. I imagine because of the different designs , different processors etc, the process was different. With the Mac I did have to use the Terminal and Directory , and it worked fine.
