Assigning Licenses to Ubuntu 16 instances

Asked by Tyler Willis

Good Morning, We are having an issue executing the following in our environment:

sudo apt update

sudo apt install landscape-client

sudo landscape-config --computer-title "computer-name" --account-name <our-account-name>

We run into an issue after executing the landscape-client operation on our machine as it appears we have a python version mismatch/communication error. We are hesitant to update any of the python versions on our machines because of the potential delay in testing that is may cause. Are there alternative ways in registering PCs to our Ubuntu Pro account to access the ESM? This is the intended goal.

We looked at the steps provided in https://ubuntu.com/blog/ubuntu-16-04-lts-transitions-to-extended-security-maintenance-esm but do not know where to find the UA token that is described in the procedure.

https://ubuntu.com/pro
Click on the "Your subscriptions tab"
Login with your Ubuntu One [SSO Login]
A token will be generated there.
After attaching the token you should get updates to fix the python version mismatch.
You could use the 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove unused packages.

Are those personal tokens? I am trying to register the machines with Landscapes for a company account that had purchased different licenses.

"we have a python version mismatch/communication error."

Can you please provide details, e.g. the full text of the error message(s)

Absolutely, working on getting a full log now.

Is there a way to attach files to this thread that I am missing? Or should I post the log output directly in the comments?

Can you help with this problem?
