NVIDIA driver won't load

Asked by mikehi

Just loaded 9.04 i386 on a AMD dual core system.
I can’t get it to load the nvidia driver.
I am only getting 800X600 resolution with 61 Hz refresh when what I want is 1280X1024 resolution and 75 Hz refresh. Can someone help?

Thanks,
Mike

1. Add this repo to your /etc/apt/sources.list
2. apt-get update && apt-get install nvidia-180-kernel-source nvidia-glx-180
3. Reboot

Enjoy latest nvidia drivers:) Above repo includes also ffmpeg and mplayer with vdpau support.

Thank you Dominik.
What I finally did was to reload the 64-bit version of 8.10 Ubuntu and get it working with the nvidia driver, then I updated Ubuntu to 9.04.

Reason I wanted the 32-bit version in the first place was because I wanted Flash so I could view youtube videos. Last I knew there was not a Flash for 64-bit Linux. All has changed apparently because I found a script that loads a 64-bit Flash and I can now view videos as I want to. Everything now seems fine. I still have to try out everything since I just finished the upgrade last evening (7 hours download time at my dsl speed).

Thanks again.
Mike
