suspend mode does not work, have to restart comp

Asked by old_newbie

upgraded to 9.04 hoping that the suspend mode will work. It doesn't. Suspend puts the comp in a frozen state with the screen light dimmed and a frozen image of the brightness meter on top left. No mouse movement or keyboard brings the comp back, and it surely is not sleeping. I have to restart the comp.

Is there any possible solution to this problem? I cannot put my Gateway MX 8715 laptop to suspend or hibernate. It does not sleep, and gets into a frozen state with the HD still running and the screen dimmed slightly; can't get out without hard reboot. What's up Ubuntu folks? This should work without a glitch. I thought upgrading to 9.04 would fix it but no luck. HELP!!!

Hi,

Sometimes getting laptops to hibernate and suspend properly is a bit of a chore. The primary reason why this doesn't work is because hardware is not documented and/or has buggy power management support.

I don't see an entry for the MX 8715 on the laptop testing page, so it's possible that suspend just isn't working on that hardware:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/Gateway

If you'd like to, please fill out a testing page for your laptop there and include the information that you can't get suspend to work properly.

Can you help with this problem?
