trackpad inop 22.04, works in BIOS, trackpad settings missing

No settings for touchpad under 'Mouse & Touchpad' settings. The trackpad/mouse is inop but works in BIOS so hardware is okay? I'm on a lenovo ideapad flex5 running 22.04, the cat has been walking across the keyboard so some key combination or a recent update may be the culprit? I'm using a USB mouse that works but I'd like to get the touchpad back? thanks for the help.. Glenn
