bluetooth not working

Asked by Knyazev Dmitry Alex

There is a Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01) and bluetooth does not work on the latest version of ubuntu (22.10). On previous versions of Ubuntu, it also did not work. I can not find the driver, I tried more than once. Wi-Fi works fine, bluetooth only works on Windows. But I want to use ubuntu

As far s I know Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter is only a WLAN adapter nd does not have bluetooth functions.
If you boot Windows and look it the device manager, is there a Bluetooth device listed, and if yes, what is its make and model?

Additionally, what output do you get for the command (in Ubuntu)

sudo dmesg | grep -i blue;

Google tells me that Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 has bluetooth version 4.0. To answer your question with pictures proving this, I need a usb life with windows 7, now I don't have it. But if you don't believe me then write and I'll do it

Please forgive me! indeed there is no bluetooth on Qualcomm Atheros AR9485. I put it on a windows 7 laptop and found this. Looks like I forgot to change them.

But the problem remained unfortunately, now on a laptop with ubuntu there is a Ralink RT3290, there is 100% bluetooth and for reasons unknown to me it does not work in ubuntu.

and after installing RT3290, another problem appeared. the laptop has special keys for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, they have a light indication of the operation of the modules. When the AR9485 was standing, only the Wi-Fi indicator worked, on ubuntu it just lights up, and when using windows it pulsates depending on the load. Now when the RT3290 is standing, the indication does not work at all.

For the RT3290 Bluetooth you will need rtbth-dkms from blaze PPA as it was never included in the kernel
In terminal

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:blaze/rtbth-dkms
sudo apt update
sudo apt install rtbth-dkms

Then you can reboot, if Bluetooth doesn't work, check in terminal

mokutil --sb

If that show Secure Boot enabled, then it will have to be disabled in BIOS

If it still fails, in terminal

sudo modprobe rtbth

Only some of the AR9485 wifi cards had BT and they will have 2 MAC addresses on the card, the model number of my card that had BT was also labelled AR5B225

I'm sorry, I don't know how to start the assembly, I hope I did it right. I’m completely zero in Linux, it’s just that the laptop only pulls Linux due to a motherboard glitch

You may have to contact the maintainer of the PPA. What I did worked in Ubuntu 22.04 using the 5.15 kernel

To be honest, after today's marathon, I'm already starting to doubt Ubuntu very much. One does not work, then another. Trying to fix so a bunch of errors climbs. On windows xp, the laptop had to be put in a cold place to install windows, and so it turned off due to overheating. But then you can use it normally. On windows 7, the installation goes fine, but when watching online video for more than 2-3 hours, it turns off due to overheating. And after the experience acquired today, I think I can try windows 11 or 10 on it. There, the drivers are installed normally and the indication works properly, and there are no such problems with eternal errors and a lack of understanding why it does not work. Sorry, boiled up.
